Covid-19 Updates: India record 20,408 New cases and 54 Deaths in last 24 hours

India recorded 20,408 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 54 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours.



According to the Union Health Ministry, the country saw a total of 20,958 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 98.48% and total recoveries data reached to 4,33,30,442.


The total active cases of Covid-19 in India have declined to 1,43,384. Yesterday, the registered active cases were 1,43,988.

A decrease of 604 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.


The active cases comprise 0.33% of the total infections. The total death toll in the country is now at 5,26,312.


Tamil Nadu added 1,624 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, a steady drop from 1,712 on Thursday and 1,803 on Wednesday.


The state discharged 2,004 patients from the Covid-19 registry, and the number of people in the active cases registry dropped to 13,519 on Friday, compared to 13,890 on Thursday and 14,284 on Wednesday. The state reported no new deaths and the cumulative toll tally since March 2020 is 38,032.


Mumbai on Friday reported 290 new Covid-19 cases and one death, taking the tally to 11,24,205 and the toll to 19,648, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a bulletin. The daily count recorded a slight increase as 281 cases were detected a day earlier.


In India, the first death due to the Covid pandemic was reported in March 2020.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 87,48,11,197 samples have been tested up to July 29 for Covid-19.

Of these 4,04,399 samples were tested yesterday.


According to the health ministry, 203.60 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far.
